Language Enriched Story Time
Language Enriched Story Time
For Libraries, Bookstores, & More!
A story time program for preschoolers, ages 3 to 5 years old, that is infused with language-rich activities
The program runs about 45 minutes, depending on how actively the children participate
The program begins with introductions, each child will be given the chance to say there name and get to know the others in the group.
Then, I read a picture book (typically seasonal). I read the story while inserting a lot of extra language, for example, asking questions about what we see on the page or what we think might happen next. I give the children time to talk about what is happening in the story and to explore the page. I model age appropriate vocabulary, grammar, and expressive language.
We then move to the table for an activity. Here I do age appropriate speech and language activities with the children. This may include worksheets with questions about the story, sequencing and story retell, spatial concepts, following directions, and more. Depending on the story, a craft or coloring page may also be included for the children to take home. Often, I'll bring in a snack that coordinates with the book (e.g., muffins for If You Give a Moose a Muffin).
Throughout the program, parents are learning how to read to their children and interact with them in a way that enriches their language skills.
Parents will receive handouts about best practices for building speech and language skills with their children. At the conclusion, parents are encouraged to ask specific questions about their child’s language development.
I am available on select Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
In order to maximize the attention I can give to each child, the max number of children who are able to sign up is 10.
The things I ask that the library/bookstore provide for me are a story time area, tables/chairs, crayons, and glue sticks.
I also ask that you let me know how many are signed up prior to my arrival so I can be sure I bring enough supplies.
"Miss Lisa is a natural with preschoolers. She is enthusiastic with the children and they all respond to her questions and interactions. I know the adults in the room learn from her too and appreciate her expertise. My niece loves Miss Lisa and looks forward to story time. She asks to go to "Miss Lisa’s library" all the time now!" - Cathy A.
"We love Language Enriched Story Time with Ms. Lisa. It's a great educational activity to do with your child or for them to do independently with Ms. Lisa's direction. My 4 year old really enjoys it and looks forward to it every time!" - Olga C.
